It was kind of awkward that while CNN was claiming Dick Clark a champion of racial progressivism (his inclusivity of African-American artists on his many shows), two guests (Roland Martin and a professor) pushed back against this notion. Particularly, they noted the exclusion of Black audience members from their shows and his attempt to compete (perhaps profit from) with Soul Train.
